Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Couples Counseling Denver CO Every moment on this planet is a gift. Ask someone who has just received a terminal diagnosis and they will tell you that or someone who has just lost a loved one.

I watched the very touching film today about Zach Sobeich the 17-year-old given just a few months to live and who just recently died.

The truth is, we all have a terminal diagnosis. It is called life.

My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just a few weeks after his 4th birthday. Life changed drastically for my family then because we were now walking with life and death in a very new way. Eight years later, we continue the walk…with more grace and comfort but a gentle awareness that things are slightly different for us now as we balance insulin and carbohydrates, low blood sugars and soaring highs.

Every moment in your life is a chance to invest.

Invest in a mood, a feeling, an activity, a hope, a dream, a relationship. Every moment in your life is a choice — do I stay in this job, this city, this house, this relationship…these beliefs. Most of your choices are not that dramatic but each one strung together creates the mosaic of your own, very unique, very special life.

Today I worked with a woman who I have seen for some time now. We spoke of many things related to choices and choosing and at the end of the session, the oh-so-unpopular statement that she and others hear periodically from me:

“It doesn’t matter WHAT you choose, it matters HOW YOU DO what you choose.”

So much time is spent weighing out the options of this or that. Lists in our heads of staying in a job or marriage or relationship. At the end of the day (barring violence, addiction, abuse, etc.) it is less important what you choose to do and more transformational to attend to how you engage in the choice you make.

What will you choose to invest in?

As you consider this precious life before you, this very moment, and the energy and resources that you have to invest…where will you entrust the most valuable commodity of this very life? Online, in-office, and walk-in-the-park options available. Book now and let the acceptance begin!
